Telltale signs point you towards certain run-able walls, which will in turn send you tumbling directly towards the right pole, which is handily placed right in front of that useful column, and onward. It's just not as open-ended as you might think. It's a nice change of pace from the linear approach typical of most adventure games. It's billed as an open-world experience, and in a sense, it is: based on which magical powers you choose to unlock, you will tackle the world in a different order. Mostly, that involves jumping, sliding, gripping and slipping through over twenty levels worth of platforming mania. His touch has corrupted a nearby kingdom alongside the mysterious princess Elika, it's your job to cleanse the world of gooey blackness and put the bad guy back in the ethereal hoosegow. This time around, the eponymous star is tossed into a conflict between light and dark as the evil god Ahriman is released from his prison beneath the Tree of Life. Dont get me wrong, Forgotten Sands deserves some respect for its graphics and gameplay, but I just prefer Rival Swords for the reasons above even though Forgotten Sands received more praise from critics as the lone original Prince of Persia adventure. Embrace the change and you're likely to fall in love with the new Prince (or at least his lovely companion). Thus, the story and controls of Rival Swords seems more appealing to me than Forgotten Sands.

The longer you hold on to the style of last generation's Prince of Persia, the harder it will be to master the new one. The ability to manipulate time is once again an integral part of the gameplay, allowing players to slow down or even rewind events to defeat enemies and to complete objectives.įorget what you know about the Prince of Persia series. As in its predecessors, the game combines platform jumping, fast-paced, freeform combat, and story-driven puzzles in a cinematic adventure filled with plot twists and intrigue. The controls have been redesigned specifically for the platform's motion-sensing capabilities, with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk used in sweeping motions, thrusts, and flicks to initiate various combat functions. The exotic setting for this installment is Babylon, where players will test their character's agility and fighting prowess by leaping across rooftops, battling in palaces, weaving though bustling streets, and exploring underground passages. As in the GameCube title, players will control both a good and evil Prince, each possessing distinct combat moves, personalities, and backgrounds. Nintendo fans who missed 2005's Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones on GameCube now have another chance to experience the critically acclaimed saga's third chapter on the Wii.
